DanceXcess has been running for over 8 years and from the start has had the support of a talented crew of loyal and dedicated staff and helpers. We have been running classes, workshops, tea dances and Freestyles at St Ives for over 6 years with our 6th birthday in September 2015 – and the same crew who started at St Ives are still with us today.
DanceXcess run’s Class nights, Freestyles, Workshops, Tea dances and social night out at various venues in the UK and run’s the only 3 room and 5 style with a dedicated West Coast Swing room freestyle in the area (ELEMENTS), we also run the only musicality based freestyle in the east of England (EXPRESSIONS) for those that like expressive music & dancing,
All our freestyles have FREE Tea & Coffee all night at both the freestyles and class nights, and on freestyles we offer a food feast which starts at 11pm to give the dancers a break and social catch up at the same time we play Expressive music for the more adventures dancers..
Now Meet the DanceXcess Crew
Val has been dancing modern jive for the last 12 years. She also dances blues and WCS. Over the last year she has been teaching for DanceXcess starting with beginners classes and beginner re-cap classes, now she has qualified to teach intermediate and improvers.
Chris (aka CJ)
Teacher & DJ for DanceXcess at St Ives, Peterborough & Tiptree.
Bio: CJ started modern jive dancing in 1994 at Milton Keynes at a well known Modern Jive club and started to learn how to partner dance, before then he danced at the local disco clubs dancing disco and northern sole. As time went on he became a taxi dancer then started his teaching with the beginner recap class,
after a few years went past CJ started his own club with another dancer at St Ives in September 2005 teaching modern jive with two lady demo’s, Jan Lomax & Pat Mitchell Falinski.
After two years CJ moved on to start CJ Jive in Milton Keynes where he lived and worked, and ran that club for two years. Due to work commitments and working aboard in the USA the club was closed and he took up a career in flying and teaching people to fly in helicopters.
Later, following his passion in dance and teaching he started DanceXcess with two friends (Angi & Graham) in September 2007 at a little club in Yaxley Nr Peterborough, then added a new venue in Stanford called the Danish Invader where together they built up a lovely club with great members and Graham and himself teaching.
In 2011 CJ with help from Iain Glendye found a new venue which had just been rebuilt at St Ives called The Corn Exchange, where DanceXcess moved to and held the first class night on the first Monday of the re-opening week of the new venue, with crew members Iain, Trudy, Graham, Olivia & John. And DanceXcess is still there to today, now the group’s flagship venue.
In the last 2 years CJ has added 3 more regular venues and 3 different styles of Freestyles; Normal Modern jive, Expressions (Expressive dance), and new to the block Elements, a 3 Room Freestyle which is all about bringing multiple styles of dance under one roof such as Modern Jive, West coast swing, Tango, Expressive and Blues.
CJ Teaches & DJ’s at all the DanceXcess club’s with support of the local teachers & DJ’s and is now the Club’s teacher trainer & demo trainer, CJ has held a teacher national training qualification since 1980 and has been a college lecturer and technical trainer and now a dance teacher trainer.
I started dancing nearly ten years ago with my daughter, Olivia and became hooked immediately! wondering why I hadn’t started years ago!! I made so many friends including Chris and Iain, and also met Graham. Chris was looking for a venue in St Ives and Iain spotted the Corn Exchange had just been revamped and was available and so here we are four and a half years on, all working together to make the friendliest dance club around!!
Trudy runs the front of house reception with Janice since the day we opened at St Ives to present day, both Trudy & Janice demo for the classes on our Monday nights.
I had a background in dance as had spent two years learning salsa (but mainly propped up the bar!), I then started Modern Jives Dancing and then met my partner Trudy, and we soon became involved with DanceXcess supporting the club. when the St Ives venue opened we joined the crew with some friends and found we all worked well together well. five years on I have taken the roll of class and freestyle DJ at St Ives , I have always had a very keen interest in music so love the challenge of searching out new music for the class nights and freestyles.
Matt Cox is as hot as you can get in the Modern Jive world!
And on top of that, he really is one of the nicest guys around – very modest and keen to share his passion of dance.
He currently holds three Open level titles in Modern Jive. Since 2010 Matt’s MJ classes and national competition has gone from strength to strength, with success at the Blackpool tower in 2015, placing him in 4 categories, and in London where he was awarded the highest accolade of Grand Master. His depth and range of dance is incredible – eg .. placed 1st in the Novice category at his first West Coast Swing competition in Nov 2015. Matt was awarded his National Diploma in Dance at the age of 17 covering modern jive, ballroom, ballet, contemporary and is a qualified street dance teacher.
Matts Dance Partner:
Sarah Lawrence discovered Modern Jive 8 years ago when a work colleague took her along to a class and she hasn’t looked back since; she is a three times Advanced MJ champion and holds two Open level MJ titles, the latter with her partner Matt Cox. Sarah also has a background in gymnastics and cheerleading and has recently studied in Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz and Commercial dance at the Ruggeri Dance Academy in London. In addition to MJ, Sarah has a passion for West Coast Swing and regularly attends events and intensive classes to extend her dance vocabulary.
